Quick Facts

Recovery:
The recovery time for a labiaplasty can be anything 5 weeks to 7 weeks. Surgeons advise not having intercourse or use tampons from 4 to 6 weeks post surgery. Patients should expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first week. Ice packs and prescribed pain medication help manage discomfort. Most patients can return to work within a few days, but should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks.

What is Labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty, vaginoplasty or vaginal rejuvenation is the surgical alteration of the labia minora (inner labia) and/or the labia majora (outer labia). This procedure can be done under local anesthesia with oral sedation or general anesthesia. Many women seek this procedure to address functional concerns such as discomfort during physical activities, or aesthetic concerns that affect their confidence and quality of life.

The Procedure

Labiaplasty can be performed using different surgical techniques depending on the patient's anatomy and desired outcome. The trim method removes excess tissue from the edge of the labia minora, while the wedge method removes a V-shaped piece of tissue to maintain the natural edge. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours and can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Incisions are carefully placed to minimize visible scarring.

Expected Results

Labiaplasty provides relief from irritation, discomfort during activities, and improved self-confidence for patients experiencing these issues. Final results are typically visible after 3-6 months when all swelling has subsided. Most patients report significant improvement in comfort during physical activities and increased confidence.
